Linux and Windows
Apex is intended for security research involving Luau VM programs. Use it only with games, programs, and accounts you own.
Apex runs on Linux, and on Windows through WSL. The program is a Linux program in both cases. Windows runs it inside the Windows Subsystem for Linux.
Linux
Download the program, make it executable, and start it. It needs glibc 2.34 or newer (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12 or newer, or anything more recent) on x86-64.
chmod +x apex
./apex
Windows (WSL)
- Install WSL 2 with a recent Ubuntu. In an administrator PowerShell:
wsl --install -d Ubuntu, then restart. - Use Windows 11, or a Windows 10 build that supports WSLg. WSLg gives Linux programs a window on the Windows desktop. Without it, Apex cannot open its window.
- Open the Ubuntu terminal and install the libraries below.
- Copy
apexinto the Linux side of WSL (for example your home folder), not into a Windows drive, then make it executable and run it as on Linux.
Shared libraries Apex needs
Apex carries most of what it uses inside itself. These system libraries are loaded from the system, so they must be installed. On Ubuntu or Debian:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install libdbus-1-3 libglib2.0-0 libegl1 libgles2 libx11-6 libwayland-client0 libwayland-egl1 libxkbcommon0 libfontconfig1 libharfbuzz0b libpng16-16 zlib1g libbrotli1 libgcc-s1
| Package | Provides |
|---|---|
libdbus-1-3 | libdbus-1.so.3 |
libglib2.0-0 | libglib-2.0, libgobject-2.0, libgio-2.0 |
libegl1 | libEGL.so.1 |
libgles2 | libGLESv2.so.2 |
libx11-6 | libX11.so.6 |
libwayland-client0 | libwayland-client.so.0 |
libwayland-egl1 | libwayland-egl.so.1 |
libxkbcommon0 | libxkbcommon.so.0 |
libfontconfig1 | libfontconfig.so.1 |
libharfbuzz0b | libharfbuzz.so.0 |
libpng16-16 | libpng16.so.16 |
zlib1g | libz.so.1 |
libbrotli1 | libbrotlidec.so.1 |
libgcc-s1 | libgcc_s.so.1 |
The program also needs the standard C library and math library (libc.so.6, libm.so.6), which every system has. To see what is missing on your system:
ldd ./apex | grep "not found"
No output means every library was found. Each name it prints is a library to install; apt-file search or your package manager's search will tell you which package has it.
License
Apex asks for your username and license key on first start. The computer needs an internet connection and a correct clock. If Apex reports that the clock is wrong, set it to automatic time.
One license, one Apex at a time. One license works on one device and runs in one Apex at a time. Apex instances you start inside that Apex all count as that one. If you sign in somewhere else, close Apex on the first device and wait up to a minute.
